watson Institute Costs of War Project
The Costs of War Project uses research and a public website to facilitate debate about the costs of the post-9/11 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the related violence in Pakistan and Syria. Economists associated with the Institute have also shown that investing government money in defense rather than civil projects like education, renewable energy, health care, and infrastructure actually costs jobs since more jobs can be created per dollar of investment in those areas than in defense.
The Poor Peoples’ Campaign
The Poor Peoples’ Campaign works to free U.S society from what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, called the three evil triplets of poverty, racism and militarism as well as climate change and other forms of ecological devastation from all of which poor people suffer disproportionately. It also committed to building unity across racial, class, gender and religious lines and to equipping members of oppressed groups for leadership. It embraces non-violent tactics and non-partisan activism.
